Case Studies
It was really weird. My phone started to eat my money and I never had any credit to call my mates. I thought I’d broken it or something. It just didn’t make sense. I was really worried that my parents would go mad so I didn’t say anything. I didn’t tell my mates either. I just hoped it would stop but it didn’t – the money just kept going.
I got desperate when I didn’t have the cash to go and do the stuff I usually do – Mum figured out something was wrong because I never stay in at the weekends. I told her about the phone and she was upset I hadn’t said sooner. I felt bad because I kept it secret.
Mum called up the phone company for me and was really angry. I could hear her shouting from my room. She found out that I was being charged £1 for getting a text with a joke in it every day. I thought that they were all free. I hadn’t understood the advert. To be honest, I don’t really remember reading it all the way through. I just thought it would be funny and something I could show everyone at school.
I wasn’t allowed to use my phone for a week and now I have to show Mum what I’m going to buy before I order it so I’m 100% certain what the price will be. Now I know to read stuff really carefully and think before I press ‘send’.
